Villanova Swim Program – Training has commenced!!!

Read below and join the 2022/23 pre-season training program.

The annual AIC Swimming Championship will be held in Week 7 of Term 1, 2023. For Villanova College to be competitive and to do well, we urge all current students and those who will be commencing their education at the College in 2023 to commence swimming training NOW.

Training has commenced for all current students on Tuesday 6 September 2022 and will continue every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday morning throughout the entire season. For those students who are commencing at Villanova in Years 5 and 7 in 2023, training will commence in Week 1, Term 4 2022 (on Tuesday 4 October) as per the schedule found in the registration letter below.

It may be the case that students choose to commence swimming training next term after the current AIC sports season is over and the weather warms, this is fine. Swimming is open to anyone who can swim at a reasonable level and/or are keen to join Villanova’s swim team or for those who simply want to get fit. We urge as many boys as possible to join.

Please find attached an information note which outlines more information including times, venue, payment etc – 2022/23 – Swimming Registration Letter

Swimming training is offered to all students at Villanova College, along with any boys enrolled to begin school at the College in the subsequent year.

The annual AIC Swimming Championships is held in the middle of Term 1 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre in Chandler. To give Villanova the best possible chance at taking home the trophy, all current and future students are invited to commence their swimming training at the beginning of Term 4 in the previous year.

Training commences early September and continues until the AIC Swimming Championships, excluding a two-week break over the Christmas period. Although we acknowledge some students choose to attend preseason training at other clubs, we encourage all swimmers to join the sessions offered by Villanova College whenever possible to build a rapport with their teammates.

All training sessions are held before and after school at Langlands Park Memorial Pool on 5 Panitya Street, Stones Corner. Swimmers in Years 5 to 8 are coached by Ms Kerry Holland, while those in years 9 to 12 are trained by Mr Guilly Santos. Villanova Old Boys are also often on hand to assist with training.

Term 4 and Christmas pre-season swim training is open to all students, whether they are hoping to make the College’s swimming team or simply wish to increase their physical fitness. However, only those who make the designated qualifying time set by the swim coaches/managers may continue swim training during Term 1 in the lead up to the AIC Swim Championships. A time trial is held at the end of week 1 of the school year to determine this swim squad. Once selected into the swim squad all swimmers are expected to train regularly and attend the weekly AIC lead-up carnivals.

Selection criteria for the AIC Swimming team is based on commitment to training, attitude, behavior and performance at lead-up carnivals. These carnivals are held on Friday afternoons or evenings in Term 1 in preparation for the AIC Swimming Championships.

During the season, additional information such as training times, team lists, coaching staff, schedules and results are available on the College website.
