The Villanova 2020/21 Pre-season Swimming Training Program has Begun!!!

Please find below information regarding the Villanova pre-season swimming training program. Training begins on Tuesday 8 September for all current students. Training will be conducted on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings for all squad members throughout the entire season which runs from now until Week 1 of Term 1 2021. This includes all holiday sessions held over the Christmas break (with a 2 week break only). After which swim trials will take place during the end of Week 1, Term 1 in 2021. Those who do well at the swim trials held next year will be asked to continue their swim training throughout Term 1 up until the AIC Swimming Championships.

2021 New students are welcome to start training too!!! Students entering the College in 2021 are invited to commence the pre-season swimming training program with the Villanova squad as from Week 1, Term 4, that is, from Tuesday 6 October. New students in 2021 will receive a special ‘Villanova Sports Information Pack’ from the College over the September holiday break which will contain information regarding the swim program among other things.

This program costs only $150 per person for the entire pre-season period. This is outstanding value. We encourage as many boys as possible to join the pre-season program. Although the program commences now, we appreciate most boys will join at the commencement of Term 4 when their current sporting commitments are finished and the weather gets a little warmer.

NOTE – these sessions are for those who can swim at a competent level. These are not learn to swim classes. Learn to swim classes are available on request from staff at Langlands Pool.

Swimming training is offered to all students at Villanova College, along with any boys enrolled to begin school at the College in the subsequent year.

The annual AIC Swimming Championships is held in the middle of Term 1 at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre in Chandler. To give Villanova the best possible chance at taking home the trophy, all current and future students are invited to commence their swimming training at the beginning of Term 4 in the previous year.

Training commences early September and continues until the AIC Swimming Championships, excluding a two-week break over the Christmas period. Although we acknowledge some students choose to attend preseason training at other clubs, we encourage all swimmers to join the sessions offered by Villanova College whenever possible to build a rapport with their teammates.

All training sessions are held before and after school at Langlands Park Memorial Pool on 5 Panitya Street, Stones Corner. Swimmers in Years 5 to 8 are coached by Ms Kerry Holland, while those in years 9 to 12 are trained by Mr Guilly Santos. Villanova Old Boys are also often on hand to assist with training.

Term 4 and Christmas pre-season swim training is open to all students, whether they are hoping to make the College’s swimming team or simply wish to increase their physical fitness. However, only those who make the designated qualifying time set by the swim coaches/managers may continue swim training during Term 1 in the lead up to the AIC Swim Championships. A time trial is held at the end of week 1 of the school year to determine this swim squad. Once selected into the swim squad all swimmers are expected to train regularly and attend the weekly AIC lead-up carnivals.

Selection criteria for the AIC Swimming team is based on commitment to training, attitude, behavior and performance at lead-up carnivals. These carnivals are held on Friday afternoons or evenings in Term 1 in preparation for the AIC Swimming Championships.

During the season, additional information such as training times, team lists, coaching staff, schedules and results are available on the College website.
