AIC Rugby League Season

Rugby League trials will commence next week. Please see the season schedule below for all details including trial/training dates etc.

AIC Rugby League Season Schedule – 2020

Trials will be held in the final week of the AIC Rugby Union and AIC Football season (that is, the week beginning Monday 7 September). All trials will be scheduled at Easts Rugby League’s main field either before or after school (timetabled around the current rugby and football training schedules). The 1st XIII will trial at Villa Park.

Due to time restrictions, all age groups will only have 1 TRIAL session before teams are selected. Each team will then have 2 training sessions held during the last wek of school before they play. If players do not attend the allocated trial session, they will miss out on the chance to be selected.

Note – Only those boys who played AIC Rugby Union or AIC Football will be permited to trial for AIC Rugby League. Each school can only submit one team per category into the competition, therefore, not all boys who sign-on to play AIC Rugby League will be guaranteed a position. After trials the boys will be advised of their selection.

AIC Rugby League will be offered for the first time as an official AIC Sport in 2019. Rugby league will be offered to all students from Years 5 – 12. All games will be played on Saturdays held throughout Term 3.

As this marks the inaugural year of AIC Rugby League, the AIC Association has at this early stage capped teams for each school to one team per year level from Years 5 – 10 as well as one open team consisting of Year 11 and 12 students.

Teams offered – Year 5A, Year 6A, Year 7A, Year 8A, Year 9A, Year 10A and Opens (combination of Year 11 and 12 students).

As AIC Rugby League, AIC Basketball and AIC Tennis are all played on Saturdays, students must only choose one of these sports to play in Term 3. Those who wish to play AIC Rugby League must play AIC Rugby Union or AIC Football in Term 2 as a prerequisite.

AIC Rugby League trials will begin with coaches assessing players during the AIC Rugby Union season during training and on game day. Extra trial sessions will be put in place to accommodate the AIC Football players after the rugby and football season which will of course be more specific to Rugby League.  We believe AIC Rugby League will be a very popular option within the Villanova College community.

In preparation of the season ahead, Villanova College has already met with Easts Rugby League Club. Our aim is to further our partnership with Easts and develop our AIC Rugby League program to a very high standard which will develop our students and attract those to our College community who play league at high level.
