How to navigate the MyVilla Locker room and sports pages.docx
Families are encouraged to bookmark this page and check The Locker Room on MyVilla regularly throughout the week, as sport information may be updated as fixtures, venues and team details are finalised. The Villanova College App will continue to be used for urgent updates, including cancellations or same-day changes. Thank you for your support in staying connected with Villa Sport.
Our GREATS focus this week is Service.
In sport, service is often seen in the small actions – arriving prepared, fulfilling your role, encouraging others, thanking officials and helping without being asked. These actions strengthen every team and reflect the character we want Villa Sport to be known for.
As our Basketball, Rugby League and Tennis teams face Iona College this week, I remind all players, coaches, parents and spectators of their responsibility to uphold the AIC Code of Conduct – April 2026. Compete hard; however, always respect officials and their decisions, communicate positively, appreciate the efforts of volunteers and support Villa without criticising the opposition. Any concerns should be raised respectfully through the appropriate College coach or Sport Coordinator.
Congratulations to Ambrose House, winners of last week’s Interhouse Track and Field Carnival with 2,219 points. Well done also to Thomas House in second place with 2,192 points and Alypius House in third with 2,170 points. Thank you to every student and staff member who competed, officiated, encouraged others or assisted behind the scenes – your service made the day possible.
Let us represent Villa with pride this week through both how we compete and how we serve others.
Winning is possible, but learning is guaranteed.
Mr Matthew Hannan, Director of Sport

Basketball
The Padua round provided another competitive weekend of Basketball, with teams across the program continuing to show strong effort, teamwork and determination on court.
Our First V secured an important win against Padua, a pleasing result for the group after a challenging start to the season. The team will look to build on this performance and carry that momentum into the remaining rounds.
There was disappointment for our 9A team, who suffered their first loss of the season after an outstanding undefeated run. While not the result they were hoping for, the group should be proud of their strong start to the season and will be looking to bounce back this weekend.
Across the program, our players continue to represent Villanova with commitment and pride. Thank you to our coaches, officials, parents and supporters for their continued contribution each weekend.
This week also sees the commencement of our Colours Cup Basketball competition on Thursday afternoon. The Colours Cup provides students in Years 5–8 with another opportunity to represent their House, enjoy competitive Basketball and stay involved in the program. We look forward to seeing plenty of enthusiasm on the courts for the opening round.
Mrs Sharon Casey, Basketball Coordinator
Rugby League
Villanova Rugby League has enjoyed some strong performances and memorable opportunities over the past fortnight.
Our Year 6A team competed at the Met East Regional Shield, producing an excellent tournament and finishing second overall. The boys represented the College extremely well throughout the day and should be proud of their efforts.
Villanova also had the opportunity to play at Kayo Stadium against Iona College. Our Year 6 team recorded an impressive 16–0 victory, while the Year 10s went down 26–6 in a competitive match. Both teams enjoyed the opportunity to play at a professional venue and represented Villanova well.
A reminder that our Wednesday afternoon skills sessions are open to all Rugby League players to attend. These sessions provide an additional opportunity for students to develop their skills and continue improving throughout the season.
We now look forward to Round 4 against Iona College at Villa Park on Saturday, 22 August. We wish all teams the best for another great weekend of AIC Rugby League.
Mr Wian Joubert, Rugby League Coordinator
Tennis
After a well-earned bye week, it’s great to see everyone back on court and into their regular training routines. The break provided players with an opportunity to recharge, but now the focus shifts back to building skills, improving fitness, and preparing for the challenges ahead.
As competition resumes, we encourage all players to bring a positive attitude to both training and matches. Tennis is at its best when it is played with determination, resilience, and respect. We want our players to compete hard, challenge themselves, and fight for every point, while always demonstrating good sportsmanship and fairness towards opponents, teammates, officials, and supporters.
We look forward to another strong round of competition this weekend against IONA as the start of our difficult run home. We are beginning to see the hard work from training sessions translate into match-day performances and the entire school is rallying behind our players to continue to work hard and improve. Thank you to our players, families, coaches, and volunteers for your continued support. Good luck to everyone this week and enjoy being back out on court!
Mr Angus Sullivan, Tennis Coordinator

Baseball Success
Congratulations to Riley K., who has been selected in the Met East Under 14 Baseball team to compete from Thursday, August 27 to Sunday, August 30.

This selection follows several outstanding achievements at national and international level. Riley represented Brisbane Metro at the Intermediate League National Titles in Lismore before travelling to Cooperstown in the United States with the Queensland Dolphins.
The Dolphins were the only Australian team among 80 competing teams and produced the program’s best result at the tournament to date, narrowly missing the final. Riley’s highlights included a two-run home run, three scoreless pitching innings against a highly ranked American team and two game MVP awards.
Congratulations, Riley, on this excellent recognition of your dedication and continued development.
National AFL Success
Congratulations to Zac G. and Cash C., who represented Queensland at the recent 10–12 Years Boys AFL National Carnival in Canberra.

The boys performed strongly throughout the tournament, helping Queensland secure third place nationally.
