Graduating Seniors
This week we farewelled our Seniors and watched as they left our gates, stepping toward new and exciting horizons. As they departed, I shared with them a few reminders and ideas to carry into the next stage of their journey.
I share with our community a brief summary of those words:
“Seniors, as you leave Villanova, take with you the Gospel values that have guided your education—love, compassion, forgiveness, and the courage to walk with others, even when it is difficult. These lessons of faith now become yours to choose and to live. Your friendships will shift as life changes, but remember that strong relationships grow through patience, generosity, and genuine support. Continue to let learning transform you, combining knowledge with experience to grow in wisdom, and allow Christ’s message to guide and steady you in moments of uncertainty. As you step beyond the gates, seek mentors, stay connected to community, and remain grounded in our Augustinian values of humility, interiority, and the restless search for truth. We are proud of the young men you have become. Go forward with confidence, courage, and hope—and continue to ‘become who you are not yet.’”
College Community: Finishing the Year Well
For our broader College community of Years 5–11 students, the year is rapidly drawing to a close. As we enter this final week of classes and examinations, it is important that students remain focused, organised, and positive. Consistent routines with regular study, adequate sleep, and balanced screen time will help students finish strongly.
This is the final opportunity to convert the goals set earlier in the semester into reality. For students who have set short, achievable weekly goals, this momentum should now reduce end-of-year stress. Families can support by providing calm study spaces and celebrating effort, not just results. Students should stay engaged in co-curricular activities and wellbeing practices that promote balance and connection. With clear priorities, steady effort, and a positive mindset, our young people can complete the year with confidence, pride, and a sense of accomplishment.
For those needing support with examination preparation, effective study combines planning, consistency, and wellbeing. We hope the boys have embraced the GREATS framework and built daily routines that reflect it. As an Augustinian community, we encourage all students to focus on growth and personal respect for their learning and performance. With support from home, we emphasise effort as the true foundation of celebration and reward—not simply results or grades. However, this does not mean celebrating mediocrity. We aim to foster accountability and encourage students to enter a phase of interiority: to reflect honestly on their effort, recognise what contributed to their performance, and adjust or replicate behaviours that lead to success.
Parent Survey
Last week I sent families a survey to gather feedback that will assist in shaping our Strategic Action Plan for 2026. The outcomes from this are considered by leadership team, together with our academic results and as we meet early next year and make action priorities. Given the importance of the information gathered I would encourage parents to be involved. Thank you to those who have already responded. The survey will close on Friday, and I encourage all families to complete it if time permits. The survey was sent from the Principal’s email—please check your inbox or spam folder if you have filters activated.

Five Years of Growth in the St Thomas Learning Centre
As I walk through the St Thomas Learning Centre each day, I’m reminded of just how far we have come since these remarkable spaces first opened in 2020. Five years on, the Centre has truly become the beating heart of learning in the Junior School—a place where our boys feel known, supported and challenged to be their best.
When the vision for these open, flexible spaces was first explored, we were driven by one belief: education must reflect the world our boys are growing into, not the world we once knew as children. Today, that decision has proven itself time and time again. The St Thomas Learning Centre continues to offer a dynamic environment that blends future-focused learning with the deep Augustinian values that anchor us as a community.
A Place Built for Boys
One of the joys of visiting the Centre is seeing the boys completely absorbed in their learning—some working at high benches, others gathered on couches, some collaborating on the floor, and others choosing quieter corners for focused work. This movement and choice are not just aesthetic features; they reflect an understanding of how boys learn best. When boys feel a sense of ownership, comfort and responsibility in their environment, engagement naturally follows.
Of course, with such freedom comes the expectation of responsibility. Our routines around organisation, respect for shared spaces, and readiness for learning have strengthened considerably over the past five years. It’s a pleasure to watch boys support one another in transitions, pack up efficiently and take pride in keeping their learning zones well-organised.
A Learning Culture We Can Be Proud Of
What impresses me most is how confident the boys have become as learners. They can clearly articulate what they are working on, how they are progressing, and what their next steps are. Our teachers have refined their practice to ensure that every lesson has purpose and clarity—short, focused instruction, meaningful collaboration, and tailored pathways that ensure each student is known and extended.
Feedback is immediate and personal. Teachers move through the spaces as coaches, checking in, redirecting, celebrating and challenging the boys to give their best effort. The calm, purposeful hum that fills the Centre most mornings is one of the most encouraging signs of how effective these environments have become.
A Community That Grows Together
The St Thomas Learning Centre has also strengthened our sense of community. The visibility of learning, sliding doors that open to shared experiences, spontaneous staff visits and the natural flow of communication across classes all contribute to an atmosphere where the boys feel connected and confident. Our wellbeing structures—Circle Time, Restorative Practices and our weekly focus on character—ensure that emotional development is nurtured with as much care as academic growth.
Looking Ahead with Confidence
Five years on, I am immensely proud of what the St Thomas Learning Centre has become. It is a place where high expectations are matched with high support; where individuality is valued but community is central; and where boys learn not only to achieve excellence, but to become young men of heart, humility and purpose.
Thank you for the trust you place in us each day. The growth we see in your sons is a testament to the strength of our partnership and the power of a learning environment built with intention, care and vision.
Mr Stephen Rouliadeff, Head of Junior School
As we head into the final stretch of 2025, I have to admit, I’m looking forward to the upcoming break just as much as the boys are. The thought of a few unhurried weeks at the beach, spending time in the water and relaxing with the family (with the cricket on in the background) sounds nothing short of amazing. I’m sure many of you feel the same (maybe without the cricket).
It has been a wonderful year in the Middle School. Our young men have achieved a great deal – academically, socially and personally. My hope is that the holidays provide the space for them to reflect on how far they’ve come, how much they’ve grown and what they’ve learned about themselves along the way. Growth doesn’t always look dramatic in the moment, but when we pause and look back, it can become remarkably clear.
To our Year 9 students: we wish you all the very best as you prepare to leave our Middle School for the next stage of your Villa journey. We look forward to welcoming you and your families at the Homecoming Ceremony next week, where we will formally end your time in the Middle School and celebrate the young men you have become.
I also want to express my sincere thanks to all parents and caregivers. Your support of me and the Heads of House throughout the year has meant a great deal. Everything we do – every conversation, every expectation, every encouragement is done with one goal in mind: helping your son grow into the fine young man we all know he can be. Thank you for walking that road with us. It may have been rocky at times, but, hopefully, working together, we’ve been able to turn seeming mountains into mere bumps.
To our teachers – thank you for the energy, patience, expertise and care you bring to your work every day. The boys flourish because of the environment you create and the passion you bring to the classroom.
And finally, to our incredible support staff: the Tuckshop team, Grounds and Cleaning crew, Counselling team, Student Services, Finance, and Inclusive Learning. The heartbeat of the College is often found behind the scenes, and it is your dedication that ensures everything runs smoothly. You are valued, appreciated and central to the success of 2025.
Well, that’s a wrap. I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. May the holiday season bring rest, joy and time well spent with those who matter most. My hope is that you are as grateful as I am for the Villa experience that has been Villanova Middle School 2025. Enjoy your break.
“A grateful heart is a sign of someone truly blessed.” – St Augustine
Mr Sean O’Neill, Head of Middle School
Year 12 Graduation
Last night, the Senior Class of 2025 marked the end of their Villanova journey with the celebration of their Graduation Mass and Ceremony. As a Catholic community, concluding this significant milestone with the Eucharist reflects the heart of who we are and the values we hope our young men carry with them as they step beyond the College and into the wider world.
The Class of 2025 will forever be remembered as a cohort which possessed the strong bonds of brotherhood and reflected our Augustinian value of humility in the way they carried themselves. We congratulate the following students for generously contributing their abilities to the life of the College in their final year:
Villanovan of the Year Matthew L
Sportsman of the Year Matthew L
Musician of the Year Wade W P
May God watch over this group of young men as they enjoy their Schoolies celebrations in the coming week.
Celebration of Excellence
Last Tuesday, the College community gathered for one of our most significant annual events—the Celebration of Excellence—at the Concert Hall, QPAC. This special evening recognised the diverse achievements of our students across the fields of academic, culture, music, service and sport.
During his address, 2026 Academic Captain Christian S spoke eloquently about the centrality of the restless search for truth within our learning community at the College.
He reflected:
“Aristotle once said that “educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” As Augustinians, we couldn’t agree more. Wisdom isn’t about memorising facts or rehearsing formulas; it’s about feeding the restless hunger of our hearts; the unquenchable thirst to understand. It’s to look both in and out and recognise the grand tapestry of our world. Tonight, we honour these students not for their grades, but for their tireless pursuit of truth.”
The night was further elevated by remarkable performances from the Symphonic Band, Sinfonia String Orchestra, College Drumline and Big Band, a reminder of the vital role the Arts play in shaping well-rounded young men.
Heartfelt congratulations go to all Senior School students honoured during the ceremony. I particularly wish to acknowledge the exceptional academic achievements of the following Year 10 and 11 students:
Year 11 Dux: Akshay K
Year 11 Proxime Accessit: Christian S
Year 10 Dux: Patrick L
Year 10 Proxime Accessit: Damian E
These award recipients embody dedication, perseverance, and a genuine pursuit of truth—qualities that lie at the heart of Augustinian education.
Happy Holidays
I extend my best wishes to all Senior School students and their families for a joyful summer break and festive season. May this time allow you both to reflect meaningfully on the year gone by and to recharge, returning in 2026 with fresh enthusiasm to embrace the many opportunities our College provides.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to the Senior School teaching faculty for your ongoing dedication to our students. Furthermore, the Student Formation Team comprised of the Heads of House- Mrs Sophie Kenny, Mr Brendan Kennedy, Mr Justin Feuerriegel, Mr Blake McLauchlan, Ms Tegan James, Mr Ben Valentine, Mr Ben Lynam and Mr Riley Brown, Mrs Susie Massa (Student Services Officer) and our Counselling Team of Mr Tass Sakellariou, Dr Ashleigh Wright and Mr Adrian Hellwig are to be affirmed for their unwavering commitment to the young men in their care. I wish Mr Hellwig in particular, every blessing in his retirement and thank him for his outstanding service to the College over three decades.
I am humbled to continue to have the opportunity to serve the young men of the Senior School and look forward to the writing of another memorable verse in the College’s storied history in 2026.
“Christmas is you, when you decide to be born again each day and let God into your soul”. – Pope Francis
Mr Matt Levander, Head of Senior School
Celebrating Our Faith and Service as the Year Ends
As our school year draws to a close, we recently gathered for our Mass of All Saints and Student Commissioning. This was a truly special occasion, particularly as we honoured the many House saints and patrons who inspire our community and our 2026 Student Leadership Team. In the spirit of service, we are currently busy packing for our Vinnies Winter Appeal and Christmas Hamper Appeal. Your generous contributions as families have made a tremendous difference thank you for your ongoing support!
Below, you’ll find a report from our Director of Service Learning, Ms Alisa Cleary, highlighting some exciting ways we are breaking new ground in Ministry.
Next week, we will conclude the school year with our final Advent liturgy, a beautiful reminder of the true reason for the season.
As we prepare for Christmas, I leave you with this prayer from St Augustine and wish you and your loved ones a happy and holy Christmas and New Year.
Nativity Prayer
Let the just rejoice,
for their Justifier is born.
Let the sick and infirm rejoice,
|For their Saviour is born.
Let the captives rejoice,
For their Redeemer is born.
Let slaves rejoice,
for their Master is born.
Let free ones rejoice,
For their Liberator is born.
Let all Christians rejoice,
For Jesus Christ is born. Amen

Green Ministry 2026 A Bold New Chapter for Villa!
We’re thrilled to announce two exciting new initiatives launching in 2026 as part of our Green Ministry program. What makes this news truly inspiring? The passionate young people who stepped forward to lead the charge for environmental stewardship at Villanova.
Leading the Way
Our Green Ministry Team will be guided by an outstanding group of seniors—Dean A, Samuel L, and Riley G—supported by the equally impressive Patrick L from Year 11. These students will set the tone for a year of action and impact.
Breaking New Ground
For the first time ever, Villanova will have representatives on the Lord Mayor’s Young Environmental Leadership Network! Congratulations to Year 10 students James C, Thomas T, and Sage A for earning this prestigious role.
And that’s not all—our first EcoMarines Ambassadors have been appointed: Henry D, Lachy D, Charlie B, and Sammy T. These students will champion sustainability projects and inspire their peers to make a difference.
Want to Get Involved?
If you’re a current Year 8 or 9 student and would like to join Jackson M and Sage A on the EcoMarines support crew, email Mrs Cleary today!
Why They Stepped Up
These appointments followed a rigorous selection process where students shared why environmental stewardship matters. Here’s a glimpse of their powerful words:
Join us in supporting Green Ministry Initiatives in 2026—together, we can make Villa a leader in sustainability!
Mrs Eleni Greenaway, Dean of Mission and Identity
As we near the end of another school year, it’s natural to pause and take stock of the journey we’ve shared. 2025 has been a year of learning, challenges and incredible achievements – and for our Year 12 students, it marks the close of an important chapter. Graduation is a moment of pride and possibility. While we’ll miss their presence on campus, we know they leave Villanova ready to make a difference in the world beyond our gates.
For all students, these final weeks can feel intense with exams, assessments, and last-minute deadlines. It’s a busy time, and we encourage every boy to keep wellbeing front and centre – balance study with rest, eat well, and take short breaks to recharge. These small habits make a big difference.
This year, our Be Your Best Self Wellbeing Program continued to grow stronger. We listened to the voices of nearly 1,500 students and gathered insights through the SWAT program to shape next year’s lessons. Planning is already underway for 2026, with exciting guest speakers and experiences designed to help our boys develop as confident, compassionate young men who live out Augustinian values.
As the holidays approach, we invite families to embrace the gift of time – step away from screens, get outdoors and enjoy simple moments together. A true break will help every student return refreshed and ready for the opportunities ahead.
To our parents and wider Villanova community: thank you for your partnership and support. It’s been a privilege to walk alongside our students this year, celebrate their successes and nurture their wellbeing. We look forward to building on this foundation and welcoming everyone back for an inspiring 2026.
Wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season.
Mrs Sheridan Carey, Director of Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Programming
As we enter the final weeks of the 2025 school year, it is encouraging to see our students in Years 5–11 approaching their assessment period with determination and purpose. We wish all students the very best as they complete their final tasks and examinations. This is an important opportunity for our young men to consolidate their learning and finish their academic year on a strong and confident note.
Celebrating Year 12 – A Remarkable Conclusion to Their Villanova Journey
We extend our warmest congratulations to the graduating class of 2025. Their commitment, maturity, and perseverance during the External Examination period have been outstanding. We are extremely proud of the manner in which they represented themselves and the College.
The Year 12 Graduation Mass and Dinner were beautiful celebrations of community, gratitude, and achievement. This year, subject prize winners were acknowledged at the Graduation Dinner, reflecting their internal and mock examination results. We congratulate all subject prize recipients on their dedication and hard-earned success. We look forward to announcing the 2025 College Dux, Proxime Accessit, and other significant achievement awards at our Academic Assembly early in Term 1 next year.
Celebration of Excellence
Last Tuesday’s Celebration of Excellence was a wonderful occasion to acknowledge the success and achievements of students across Years 5–11. Congratulations to all students who were recognised on the evening. In particular, we commend the following young men who achieved the highest academic honours for their year level:
Year 5
Year 6
Year 7
Year 8
Year 9
Year 10
Year 11
We congratulate these students on their exceptional academic achievement.
ICAS Competition Achievements
During this week’s assembly, we also acknowledged the achievements of students who participated in the ICAS (International Competitions and Assessments for Schools) program. ICAS is a globally recognised academic competition that challenges students in English, Writing, Mathematics, Science and more, providing an opportunity for high-achieving learners to test their skills against international benchmarks. Participation alone reflects a student’s willingness to extend themselves beyond the standard curriculum.
We especially recognise those students who achieved Distinction or High Distinction results:
A particularly remarkable achievement goes to Year 7 student, Zachary H, who was awarded First Place in Queensland for the ICAS Writing Competition. This is an extraordinary honour, placing Zachary at the very top of all participating students across the state. We commend him on this outstanding accomplishment.
Australian Mathematics Competition
We are proud to acknowledge the more than 100 Villanova students who participated in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) this year—one of the world’s largest and most prestigious mathematics competitions. Students across four divisions spent 75 minutes solving complex problems that demand higher-order reasoning and creativity.
Their willingness to embrace this challenge speaks to their resilience and enthusiasm for learning. We congratulate all participants and warmly commend the following students on their exceptional results:
Distinction Awards
High Distinction Awards
We commend these students for their outstanding mathematical performance.
Learning Beyond the Classroom – Term 4 Excursions
Authentic learning experiences remain central to cognitive development, curiosity and student engagement. Throughout Term 4, students from Years 9–11 have taken part in a range of excursions that connect classroom learning to real-world contexts:
Creative Arts Highlights
Year 10 Accounting – Industry Visit
The Year 10 Accounting class participated in an offsite immersion at MURO Accountants, East Brisbane, organised by Mrs Michelle Smith-Rowan. Mr Canio Muscillo provided students with an informative session on credit management to support their upcoming assessment and spoke about the diverse career pathways in accounting. We thank Mr Muscillo for providing this valuable learning opportunity.
Year 11 Industrial Graphics Skills Industry Visit
Year 11 students toured RockPress, TRS Engineering, and Archer Truss, gaining firsthand insight into metal fabrication, engineering processes, and the real-world importance of accurate drafting. We are grateful to our industry partners for their generosity and expertise.
Year 11 Biology Camp
As part of their syllabus requirements, Year 11 Biology students completed a field-based research camp at the UQ Moreton Bay Scientific Research Station. This immersive experience allowed students to apply their biological understanding in authentic ecological settings, collect and analyse field data, and deepen their appreciation for scientific inquiry.
2026 College Dates & Leave Applications
The key dates for the 2026 school year have already been communicated and are provided again below for reference. Assessment calendars will be published early in Term 1. As always, the College strongly discourages early holiday departures, as examinations traditionally occur in the final week of each term. To maintain the integrity and fairness of assessment, early or late examinations cannot be arranged.
Families requiring extended leave for personal reasons (weddings, family events, etc.) should contact the Teaching and Learning Office to request the appropriate documentation.
Term Dates for 2026:
Stationery Orders for 2026
A reminder that all stationery orders should be finalised by Sunday 7 December to ensure timely delivery before school resumes. Year-level stationery lists are available on Parent Lounge.
Thank You
Finally, I extend my sincere thanks to our students, staff, and families for another successful and rewarding academic year. There has been much to celebrate in 2025, and with several new and exciting initiatives on the horizon, 2026 promises to be a year of continued growth and opportunity in Teaching and Learning at Villanova College.
We wish all families a safe, restful and joy-filled Christmas break.
Mr Kirk Astill, Acting Dean of Teaching and Learning
Christmas Extravaganza
Our final event for 2025 was convened on Tuesday evening in Goold Hall. With members of our music and College community gathered, we celebrated another great musical year with our Christmas Extravaganza.
Every ensemble and department was represented across the evening, with groups combining to share 90 minutes of music. There were Carols and Christmas songs of all shapes and variety, from our Rock Program’s rendition of My Chemical Romance’s version of All I Want for Christmas, Big Band’s performance of Charlie Brown’s Christmas, through to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer from our guitar program and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas from Sinfonia String Orchestra. The night was another great way to end what has been a great year of music at Villanova.
Thanks must go to our Music Support Group for their great work in supplying food and refreshments to the gathered throng. Thanks must also go to our tech team – Mr Miller and our student tech crew – who made us all look and sound amazing. Thank you to the parents and friends who have continued to support Music at Villa across this year. Finally, thank you to the staff and students who work tirelessly across the year to prepare for these events and share their wonderful music each and every time.
Instrument Returns and Summer Loans
We require all Year 5 instruments and students in Years 6 and above to return their College Owned instruments for cleaning and servicing. Please ensure these are in to the Music Office before the end of this week.
For students requiring an instrument loan over summer, we will be able to release these to families with the completion of a loan agreement and music enrolment form.
Music Enrolment Returns
Thank you to all who have communicated with the Music Office regarding their intentions for music in the coming year. To assist us in completing staff loadings and timetabling, we require all these documents to be returned. If you have not yet, please do so to ensure our team is able to best prepare for 2026. If you require an enrolment form, please contact the music office – music@vnc.qld.edu.au.
Music Support Group AGM
Our AGM for the Villanova College Music Support Group was convened on Monday 10 November. I would like to thank those who were able to join us for this important occasion. On behalf of our music community, I would like to recognise and thank Rebecca Keighran for her leadership of this group over the past couple of years. Her enthusiasm and vision for the group has reinvigorated parental support for music and has placed this committee in a positive space moving forward.
It gives me great pleasure to introduce our new Music Support Group Executive. I thank them all for taking on this important role and wish them all the best as they work with our music community over the coming year (perhaps years) ahead!
President Liza Baumgartner
Secretary Frances Ellis
Treasurer Genevieve Lewis

On a personal note, I would like to thank all students, staff, and families for their continued support of Music here at Villanova. It has been another great year. We have farewelled some fine young men as they graduate this place today, and we look forward to our new and upcoming musicians as they strive to build on the legacy of community that has been laid before them.
From all here, a happy and Holy Christmas to you all. May you find peace with family at this time and enjoy the gift of their presence over the coming festive period.
As always, we end our concerts with music – a safe break to you all – we begin again Week 2, 2026.
Until then – over to you Mr Bean!

Whether it is in the classroom, on the training track or in competition, there is real value in completing the year with integrity, effort and pride. We have seen this in abundance across Trimester 1 preparations and we are immensely proud of our teams.
Thank you once again for your strong support of Villa Sport. Each session, each game and each conversation builds our community and prepares the boys for success in 2026.

Behaviour Expectations
All swimmers are reminded that representing Villanova College is both a privilege and a responsibility. Students are expected to:
Poor behaviour or a lack of effort may impact participation in the program. Let us continue to set the standard for effort, discipline and teamwork in the pool.
All sessions are led by accredited swim coaches and supported by Villanova staff. Thank you for your commitment and cooperation as we prepare for another successful AIC Swimming season.
Ms Julie Colbert (Communication and Administration) & Ms Lauren Robinson (Training and Performance), Swimming Coordinators
Volleyball
It was a great way to launch the 2026 AIC Volleyball season with our first set of full College matches against Iona. This match also wrapped up the Volleyball trials for Term 4 with these lists now available via Parent Lounge. For those students who have been successful in making a team, the final commitment of the Year will be this Saturday’s full College matches v St Laurence’s College. Following these matches, AIC volleyball will finish for the Term.
Whilst we understand the disappointment for students not selected in a team, the College will again offer the green and gold training squad in Term 1 for those students unsuccessful in making a team who wish to continue with some volleyball development. Further details will be released in the New Year. For students still interested in representing Villanova in Term 1, we are still looking for players for our cricket teams – please contact Mr Dufty (ndufty@vnc.qld.edu.au).
Wishing all the best to our teams this weekend against St Laurence’s College.

Met East & Composite Sport (representative) 2026
For Sport families who participate in the School Sport Pathway (Composite/Lytton district, Met East or QLD Schoolboys) I wish to provide an update around the changes for 2026.
Earlier this year, the State and Regional School Sport offices have conducted a review of current format of regional sport. Following this, Schools/Colleges have been reassigned to a new District for 2026 and beyond. Villanova College now belongs to the Central Sharks district which will replace Composite/Lytton. A full update of changes will be published in the coming weeks but a few things to note:
Further changes will be communicated in the coming weeks.

SPECIALISED SERVICES
Term 4 Speed & Agility Program

• Cost: $170 for 8 sessions delivered by Matty Scott and elite-level coaches

• Time: 7:00am to 8:00am

This is a great opportunity to build speed, coordination and confidence in a dynamic and supportive setting.
Please note: Extreme heat or lightning may require short-notice changes to training or matches, including reduced session time, venue changes or cancellation. Updates will be communicated via the Villanova College App. Generally, training will occur near the Agora area, during wet weather.
Strength and Conditioning
As we approach the end of Term, it’s been outstanding to see the Villanova sports program fully engaged in their gym preparation.
Across AFL, Volleyball, Soccer and Cricket, we are building a strong work ethic and the standards exactly where they should be for a school serious about long-term athletic development.
Our Andrew Slack Squad is currently completing a testing block.
All other teams are wrapping up their Term programs. This term’s focus on strength foundations, stability, eccentric control and movement competency has created a platform we can now build on as we transition into the next phase of the yearly plan. The progress from a resilience standpoint, this block has produced puts us in an excellent position leading into 2026.
In the coming days, we will communicate the schedule for our Holiday Training Program. This period is crucial. December and January are long stretches without the usual school routine and the athletes who continue to train through the break are the ones who retain their gains and step into Term 1 already ahead. Consistency matters: strength qualities, tendon health and speed development all regress when training stops for several weeks. Maintaining even two structured sessions per week over the holidays makes a significant difference once preseason begins.
We look forward to seeing our athletes stay committed, keep a high standard and carry this momentum into a strong and successful 2026 season for Villanova College.
Marco Mastrorocco
Coordinator of Strength & Conditioning
STUDENT NOTICES
We are still looking for more students to join our 2026 Villanova cricket teams. No cricket experience is necessary, with all matches being the T20 format, with plenty of fun to be had with your schoolmates:
9C Team – 4 more cricketers.
8C Team – 4 more cricketers.
If you would like to join one of the above teams, please see Cricket Coordinator Mr Dufty in the sports office.
The 2026 cricket team lists for ‘all cricket teams’ including the new Year 5 teams will be finalised and posted in the Parent Lounge by 3pm Thursday the 20th of November.
SPORT DEPARTMENT REMINDERS
Selection Feedback Process
The goal of this selection process is to address and resolve players’ concerns in a structured and collaborative way. It begins with direct communication with the coach and escalates to higher-level review (if necessary), ensuring fairness and the effective resolution of both minor and serious issues.
Step 1: Direct Communication:
The player discusses their concern directly with the coach, who also provides feedback.
Step 2: Further Action:
If the student’s concern is not resolved, the player consults the relevant Sport Coordinator, who will look to involve the coach.
Step 3: Serious or Unresolved Issues:
For significant concerns or unresolved matters, the player and their parents will meet with the relevant Sport Coordinator and the Director of Sport.
Minor Disputes (handled by coach or Sport Coordinator):
Serious Misconduct (escalates to Sport Coordinator & Director of Sport):
Wet Weather Cancellations
If there is any reason to cancel training sessions or weekend games, this information will be posted to the Villanova College phone application in the Notices section. Please ensure you have downloaded the Villanova College Application and updated your preferences and settings.
The Villa Sports Department will endeavour to cancel morning training sessions by 6am and afternoon training sessions by 2pm. If a training session is cancelled, students must not be dropped at training venues, as supervision cannot be guaranteed. Please check the Villanova College phone application regularly for these notifications.
If any AIC fixtures are cancelled, we will follow the same procedure above. Timing will be dependent on when that information becomes available.

FINAL REFLECTION
“It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up.” – Vince Lombardi
As we move through this phase of trials, skills development and squad selections, I want to acknowledge the resilience, humility and positivity our boys continue to show. It is never easy when you are learning new skills, navigating nerves or dealing with the disappointment of missing a team. Yet it is often in these moments that real growth happens.
A story that resonates with many sports fans is that of Michael Phelps. At just 15 years old, he finished fifth in his first Olympic final – no medal, just a burning reminder of what it takes to be the best. He could have given up but instead used that moment as fuel. Through hard work, discipline and unwavering belief, he went on to become the most decorated Olympian of all time.
It’s a reminder that early setbacks don’t define us – how we respond does. Sport is a journey with twists and turns and sometimes the best breakthroughs come after setbacks. What matters most is showing up with a great attitude, supporting mates and giving your best effort, every time.
Whether your son made a squad, is still pushing hard or has moved into another program, his attitude, spirit and determination strengthen Villanova Sport and the community we are proud to stand together in.
Let us finish the year with heart, humility and hunger. Keep rising, keep learning and keep backing each other.
Go Villa! 💚💛
- it helps our boys and the school community
- it is great opportunity to meet other parents & chat to others with similar interests
- boys enjoy seeing their parents at school (even though they won’t always admit it)
- it’s a chance to get to meet your son’s friends and their teachers
- it’s a great way to seek advice from parents who have “been there, done that”
- it’s a lot of fun
