Location and Facilities

Opened in 2019, the St Thomas of Villanova Learning Centre, is home to Junior School and Senior School Precincts. Levels 2 and 1 are home to Junior School Classrooms. Our classrooms have been designed for how boys learn best. Classrooms like ours help us to develop skills like critical thinking, creativity, communication and collaboration by working together while we also engage in the curriculum. The third level is home to our Senior students and ownership of these facilities reflects their social and emotional maturity as leaders of our College. The Study Commons, with its flexible open plan design encourages students to collaborate, communicate and problem solve. On this level is a 120-seat auditorium, designed specifically to replicate university style learning for those choosing to pursue tertiary study.

  The Veritas Building And The Fr Michael Morahan Staff Centre house Senior School classrooms and staff facilities. The Fr Michael Morahan Staff Centre is in memoriam of Fr Michael Morahan, the last Augustinian Father to serve as Rector of the College, who passed away in 2011.

The Augustine Centre features music and drama facilities along with staff offices. The Hanrahan Theatre, its main auditorium, seats over 500 people. The Playhouse is attached via an annex and houses a drama teaching area and office facilities.

Villanova College has named its library the Tolle Lege Library; Tolle Lege being Latin for 'take and read'.  Our Library team offers numerous services, and we are always available to assist our community. The Tolle Lege Library is a busy place. Classes are often booked into our spaces. However, students are also welcome to use our facilities before and after school, as well as during break time.

Villanova College welcomed even more classrooms and art facilities in 1994 with the opening of the O’Donnell Building. It was named after Fr Ben O’Donnell, the first Rector of Villanova, who was invited from Ireland to attend the opening. Today it accommodates the College’s Middle School precinct.

Good Counsel and Cascia originally held classrooms, a one-room library and a general purpose room when it opened in 1967. Today, the facility is dedicated solely to the Middle School. Good Counsel and Cascia block is named after the Mother of Good Counsel and the Augustinian Saint, Rita of Cascia.

Goold Hall boasts an indoor sporting centre, a stage and numerous classrooms, it is a reflection of the legacy and ideals of Australia’s first Augustinian, James Goold.

The 25-metre, on-site swimming pool has helped develop the skills and harness the energy of students through dedicated training and healthy competition.

The College’s playing fields, known as ‘Villanova Park’, are situated on Manly Road, Tingalpa. Villanova Park has seven playing fields.

Mendel Hall is named after the Augustinian geneticist, Gregor Mendel, and continues to carry on his passion for science. It opened in 1971 as a two-storey complex dedicated solely to the sciences, with a bottom floor reserved for the arts. A third storey was added in 1979. Today Mendel Hall’s top two levels are state-of-the-art science laboratories, while the bottom floor features classrooms and a catering centre.

The oldest original building at Villanova, Tolentine houses administration and teaching facilities. It was named after the Augustinian Saint, Nicholas of Tolentine. The ‘Tower’, which is approximately 50 metres tall, was the second tallest building in Brisbane when first constructed.

The historic “Langlands” Building is the oldest on campus, built in 1884. Archbishop Duhig purchased “Langlands” in 1916 to house the Sisters of the Good Samaritan who then begin to staff St James’ Parish School. When the Sisters moved into a new convent in 1953, “Langlands” became the Priory of the Augustinian Fathers and Villanova Coorparoo was opened for learning and teaching in 1954. Langlands now hosts the College’s psychologists and counsellors.

Situated next to the St Thomas of Villanova Learning Centre is Whinstanes playing field. The field was named after “Whinstanes” the Hamilton residence where Villanova was initially founded in 1948
