Dear Parents and Caregivers

I write with early information regarding today’s announcement by the Queensland Government regarding the changed school start dates for students in 2022 and the associated response plan at Villanova College.

As most families would now be aware, the Premier announced on Sunday morning, 9 January 2022, that the start of the Queensland academic school year will change by two weeks, from 24 January 2022 to 7 February 2022 for students in P-10. Students in Years 11 and 12 will commence remote learning one week earlier, beginning the week of 31 January 2022.

As such Villanova College will follow the Government decision and make arrangements that respect this decision, and its intent, while looking to ensure the best possible outcomes for our students, families and staff.

As one can imagine, there are many questions to be asked and answered in the next few days to ensure high quality responses are made and to guarantee families and staff have a clear direction moving forward.

The College Leadership Team will convene tomorrow to begin the process of designing the blueprint for school return and endeavour to answer key questions for families and staff to ensure a seamless transition through the challenge of this ‘Omicron’ period. We will then begin the process of more detailed communication of our actions, procedures and expectations in the early part of this week.

While I never imagined that this would be my first introduction and communication with the Villanova community, it is the world in which we currently live. As such we respond with reflectiveness, vigour and a focus on the best learning and wellbeing outcomes for our boys, staff and families.

I do hope that despite the challenge of this period, and the illness families may have suffered, it has been an enjoyable Christmas and New Year period for all in our community.

I sincerely look forward to meeting with you all at the College, on the sidelines, in the concert halls and classrooms of Villanova, hopefully in the very near future.

Yours sincerely

Mr Paul Begg
College Principal
