The AIC Chess competition runs in conjunction with the AIC Rugby and Football season during term 2, however, Chess will be played on Friday evenings as per College calendar beginning with two trial matches. To give our students the necessary skills and training the College has opened a Chess Club to all interested players, which will commence the week beginning the 24th Feb, week 5, in T10 during first break each day. All students are welcome to play in the Chess Club, but students wishing to join the AIC Chess Teams will need to compete in play-offs for positions in the team and later attend practice sessions. Further information will become available later in the term in relation to those students who wish to participate in the Villa Chess Teams.

Chess has become a very popular sport at Villanova College and is offered to all students. Chess allows students to socialise and compete against their peers in a variety of competitions held throughout the year.

The AIC Chess competition is held during Term 2 and all games are played on Friday afternoons or evenings after school.

The Villa Chess Club opens towards the beginning of Term 1 and organises the preseason training and selection program for all chess teams. A number of highly motivated and passionate staff run the College’s chess program and a specialised external chess coach is employed by Villanova to teach all the necessary skills and strategies needed to master the game.

The skills built through playing chess, such as mathematical, analytical, problem solving and strategy, are often employed in other areas of life, making this sport one of the most beneficial for inner development.

During the season, further information such as training times, team lists, staff, schedules and results is available on the College website.
