Admission Requirements

Villanova College’s enrolment procedures involve assessing the particular applicant’s needs as well as establishing alignment between the beliefs and goals being promoted by the College and those of the applicants and their families. For example, the College looks to parents to support its key goals of education in the Christian faith, commitment to learning and trying to achieve to the best of one’s ability, growth in personal discipline, a commitment to restorative practices, and involvement in community life. It welcomes students and parents who seek similar goals.

Accordingly, a process of discernment regarding the offer of places will be undertaken by the College in dialogue with the families of applicants. Because Villanova is a Catholic College, the majority of places will be offered to Catholic boys with a limited number of places available to non-Catholic boys. Each application will be considered on its merits having regard to criteria such as: the degree of involvement by the applicant and parents in their parish, school or community; whether the applicant is the brother of current or past student of Villanova College or the son of past student of Villanova College; the applicant’s behaviour and attitude; and the College’s capacity to cater for the talents and needs of each applicant, and to meet the specific educational and emotional needs of particular applicants, where applicable.

The College does not normally exclude students on academic grounds provided the school can meet their needs. Nor does it give sporting scholarships nor any preference to boys because of sporting talents.

Non-disclosure of any information relevant to the application may result in cancellation of the enrolment process.

Procedures

The main entry years are Year 5 and Year 8.

Registration

Actual applications are only processed in the two-year period leading up to the desired year of entry. Before this period parents are asked to download the Prospectus and Registration Form.

Because of the file size of the Prospectus, we recommend downloading it to your computer and then opening it locally, rather than simply clicking on it to open in your browser.

To download it, right click on the link and select

"Save target as" (in Internet Explorer) or

"Save link as" (in Mozilla Firefox).

(Parents who cannot access the internet may contact the College and request that the Registration Form and the Prospectus be sent out by mail.)

On return of the completed Registration Form to the College the student’s name will be recorded on a Prospective Enrolments Register.

Application for Enrolment

At the beginning of the year the student is in Year 3 or Year 6, an application package is posted out to all those on the Prospective Enrolments Register for places in Year 5 or Year 8. Parents of students not on this register at this stage should seek the application package promptly by contacting the College and registering.

The application package contains a letter listing the documentation required, an application form, details of the application fee, reference pro-forma, current fee schedule, privacy statement and documentation checklist. The application is to be returned with all the required documentation. NB: Applications will not be processed until all documentation is received.

Year 5 Applications

All completed applications for Year 5, together with all the required documentation, are to be received by the closing date set annually to closely follow Open Day in early March. Interviews of applicants and their families will commence towards the end of Term 1. At the beginning of May parents will be offered a place for their son or informed that his name has been placed on a list for further review. This will be done formally in writing.

Year 8 Applications

All completed applications for Year 8, together with all the required documentation, will be examined and placed in an order based on the criteria above. Parents are advised to apply as close as possible to the beginning of the year their son enters Year 6. Interviews will be arranged and conducted by the Registrar who would ordinarily offer a place upon completion of the interview. Failure to apply as early as possible in that year could affect the outcome of the application since places may have been exhausted.

Other Year Levels

These are dealt with in a similar manner to those for Year 8. Vacancies appear from time to time in various Year Levels as families are transferred etc. Families are advised to contact the school as soon as possible as these vacancies are few.

Enrolment Agreement and Confirmation of Enrolment

If a place is offered, the parents will be asked to complete a formal “Enrolment Agreement” to be returned to the College within a specified period, as well as the Confirmation of Enrolment fee of $400, $200 of which is deducted from Term 1 fees of the year of commencement.
