AIC Sport

A full program of competitive sports is available at the Secondary level. In the past Villanova has competed in The Associated Schools (T.A.S.) sporting competition. Recently Villanova, Marist Ashgrove, St Peters Indooroopilly, St Laurences, Iona, Padua, St Patricks Shorncliffe and St Edmunds have withdrawn from T.A.S. to form The Association of Independent Colleges (A.I.C.).

Villanova College students compete with these Colleges on weekends in:

  • Athletics
  • Basketball
  • Chess
  • Cricket
  • Cross country
  • Rugby Union
  • Soccer
  • Swimming
  • Tennis
  • Volleyball

AIC Sporting Policy

Since all students benefit by belonging to a school involved in inter-school competition, all must be prepared to contribute to their school's sporting representation unless exempted for medical reasons.

When selected to represent the school in interschool sport, boys are required to train for and participate in that sport. It is not a boy's choice alone which determines the sports he will enter.

Participation in school representative sport takes precedence over other sporting interests and commitments.

CIC Sport

An extension of the Physical Education and Friday afternoon sports period is Villanova's involvement in the Combined Independent Colleges (C.I.C.) Sports Association involving twelve Brisbane and Gold Coast Colleges with primary school departments. middleschoolguide20.gif

Villanova's commitment to C.I.C. Competition is as follows.

  • Cricket (available to any boy who nominates)
  • Rugby (available to any boy who nominates)
  • Tennis (8 teams)
  • Athletics (selected squad)
  • Swimming (selected squad)
  • Cross Country (elected squad)
  • Basketball (U12, U13)
  •

Junior School Chess

In recent years Villanova has competed with distinction in the annual Queensland Primary School Chess Championships. Individual students are invited to further their expertise by joining the group of students who compete as individuals and as a school in the above competition.

CIC & QDU Debating

Junior School students compete in the C.I.C. Debating Competition.

In the Middle and Senior Schools, teams compete in the Queensland Debating Union Competition.

Junior School Camps

An annual class camp is a tradition for students in the Junior School. All camps have the common goals of:

  • growth of personal self-confidence and independence
  • the development of co-operative group living skills

Depending on the nature of the camps which may be at a variety of venues particular camps have their own aims and objectives.

Villanova Music

Villanova has a firm commitment to music. Ensemble experiences, concert band, choir and orchestra are part of the music program. The College instrumental program offers students individual or group tuition in piano, guitar and all orchestral instruments. Membership of the following College groups or ensembles is available to boys:

  • Strings
  • Concert bands
  • Woodwind ensembles
  • Percussion ensembles
  • Brass ensembles
  • Guitar ensembles
  • Stage bands
  • Choral groups

Membership of these groups is by invitation and implies a commitment to all rehearsals, public performances and tours.
